This awesome XBee project enables an ice fishing pole to alert you by text when you have a fish. The XBee ice fishing pole was created by Digi’s own Dave Olson.
“This means no more long hours on the ice staring at your tip up or losing fish due to inattentiveness,” Dave explains.
The tip up alerts the fisherman when they have a fish in real time via text message. The tip up uses electric current switch magnets attached to an XBee DIO Adapter, which reads when a fish is caught. Sending this information through a cellular gateway, your phone receives a “fish on!” text message. The solution can be used with multiple tip ups and/or a ZigBee mesh network.
The information is also pushed up to the iDigi Device Cloud, allowing the fisherman to see data and analytics on their fishing success with a Web or phone application.
Questions for Dave? Ask him on Twitter– he’d be happy to share more information or tips on making your own XBee enabled ice fishing pole.
