Digi Provides Secure Communications
In
a world of seemingly constant threats to privacy, a need has arisen to provide
more secure communications over TCP/IP networks. As networking continues to
stretch to the outer limits with remote locations and devices, elements such
as data authentication, integrity and encryption have become a priority
for more and more companies. Digi has answered these requests by providing
more secure communications with features such
as SSH v.2, SSL and
now with the new RealPort® with encryption COM
port redirector software.
Applications that require more secure communications include financial, retail/point-of-sale,
government, medical, or any environment that must have enhanced security to protect
sensitive information.
Digi has also received Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) certification across several product families totaling nearly two dozen device servers, terminal servers and embedded modules. FIPS is especially important for sensitive government and military applications.
Digi Secure Communication Features/Products
-
Digi RealPort® with encryption – Now virtually any software application that communicates via COM/TTY ports can connect more securely to a serial device, across a TCP/IP network using RealPort with encryption. Digi uses an industry compliant means of ensuring integrity and encryption using a SSL/TLS socket with AES encryption.
- SSL – Secure Sockets Layer provides
an industry standard secure socket for software applications to
Digi hardware communications
- Vital component in all products supporting Digi RealPort with encryption
- Products also offering SSL server
- SSH v.2 – Secure Socket Shell allows a secure connection between any SSH client and Digi terminal, device and console servers.
Digi Secure Communication Certification
Digi International has received Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), providing additional security qualifications to our serial to Ethernet product lines. PortServer TS (1-16 ports), Digi One IAP and Digi Connect product families have achieved Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) certification, FIPS PUB 197.
The FIPS certification assures federal government agencies that our connectivity products meet the necessary security measures for secure data communications
The Digi Connect product family shares a common implementation of
an AES Encryption Algorithm based on Open SSL v0.9.7b. This algorithm
has been FIPS certified on the
Digi Connect ME and is common to the following products and firmware
releases (and later).
- Digi Connect ME: 82000856_A
- Digi Connect Wi-ME™: 82000977_E
- Digi Connect EM: 82000904_C
- Digi Connect Wi-EM™: 82000983_E
The Digi PortServer and Digi One product families share a common implementation of an AES Encryption Algorithm based on Open SSL v0.9.6c. This algorithm has been FIPS certified on the PortServer TS 4 MEI and PortServer TS 16, and is common to the following products and firmware releases (and later).
- Digi One IAP: 82000770_D
- PortServer TS 1/2/4 MEI: 82000747_K
- PortServer TS 8/16: 82000684_G
- PortServer TS 8/16 MEI : 82000684_G
- PortServer TS M MEI (Modem Series): 82000747_K
- PortServer TS H MEI (Hardened Series): 82000747_K
- PortServer TS W MEI (Wireless Series): 82000747_K
- PortServer TS P MEI (Power Series): 82000747_K
