New Digi Module Integrates Cellular, GPS and Satellite Connectivity for Global Asset Tracking and Fleet Management Applications

Digi m130 based on acquisition of Q52 Omni technology from Sierra Wireless

MINNETONKA, Minn. (October 13, 2010) - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) today introduced the Digi m130™, an embedded module that allows OEMS to enable their products with GSM/GPRS, global positioning system (GPS) and ORBCOMM satellite connectivity in a single solution. Ideal for fleet management and asset tracking applications, the compact Digi m130 enables remote connectivity to mobile assets via cellular or satellite networks and is the fastest way for device manufacturers to add cellular, GPS and satellite in one design.

“Featuring both cellular and satellite connectivity allows customers to develop fleet management solutions that can easily switch from one network to another,” said Larry Kraft, senior vice president of global sales and marketing, Digi International. “As a vehicle moves out of cell range, it can then use satellite to maintain connectivity. This combined with GPS functionality allows organizations to track their products to within 5 meters of accuracy virtually anywhere on the planet.”

The fast expansion of machine-to-machine (M2M) mobility has created strong demand for cost-effective, reliable Global Area Networking solutions,” said Bertrand G. de Brugiere, general manager, Maestro Wireless Solutions. “The Digi m130 and ORBCOMM network enabled us to develop a complete and customized solution for the M2M mobility market. Digi provided full support and we effortlessly integrated the Digi m130 into our first satellite dual-mode modem with GPS.”

The Digi m130 provides flexible wide area networking connectivity supporting cellular, GPS and satellite functionality. Cellular and satellite connectivity provide instant, always-on communications allowing companies to switch networks easily. On-board GPS enables location tracking and geo-fencing. The Digi m130 features Digi’s satellite application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology used in the popular Digi m10™ module and an AirPrime™ WMP Series intelligent embedded module from Sierra Wireless. The Q52 Omni was developed in a partnership between Wavecom and MobiApps, before they were acquired by Sierra and Digi, respectively.

Digi m130 customers will also have access to the ready-to-use iDigi™cloud computing platform for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) network management by Q2 2011. The iDigi platform enables secure remote access, control and management of network-connected devices and complete cloud-based application development. A Python development environment for easy application development will also be available by March 2011.

Digi will support all current Sierra Wireless Q52 Omni  customers. The Digi m130 is available now for $169 in 10,000 quantities. Development kits are available now for $1,299. Development kit customers will also receive a free 1-hour consultation with Spectrum Design Solutions, Digi’s wireless consulting group. Spectrum consultants will discuss approaches to software development and antenna design for the Digi m130. For more information, visit www.digi.com/m130.
