ZigBee technology enables low-cost, low-power networking of sensors, controllers and other such devices in self-configuring, self-healing wireless mesh networks. The Digi XBee Smart plug is an intelligent outlet that has the ability to measure and control electrical devices plugged in via a standard electrical outlet. A key benefit is more efficient usage of energy, resulting in decreased costs. Part of Digi's Drop-in Networking family, the Digi XBee Smart Plug integrates with ConnectPort® X gateways to centralize input from multiple Digi XBee Smart Plugs into an energy management solution. Load consumption information from attached electrical devices can be communicated for monitoring or control of the attached appliance. Information including on/off status, operating range and erratic behavior can be determined and used to initiate subsequent actions, such as powering off a device.
The Digi XBee Smart Plug includes a built-in mounting tab, which allows it to be securely screwed into standard wall sockets using the existing mounting screw hole. In addition to ZigBee network extension, the Digi XBee Smart Plug also includes integrated environmental sensors. Customers using ConnectPort® X gateways have the ability to receive Digi XBee Smart Plug also provides instantaneous energy consumption information when polled from a ZigBee coordinator such as the ConnectPort X gateway.
Digi XBee Smart Plugs can be used with ConnectPort X gateways, XBee® embedded modules, XBee adapters or XBee sensors to "drop-in" end-to-end device networks – without the need for a wired network infrastructure.
