The XEB09-C has a linear regulator inside that supplies power to the circuitry. The normal recommended input voltage is 4.5-9.0 VDC only. To use voltages outside the recommendation depends upon the temperature.4.5 - 9 VDC for -40 to 70C temp range
To use the radio with a 12V supply we recommend using a 20 ohm, 2W resistor in series with the V supply which will drop the 12V supply to within the valid range. This solution will consume .36W x 12V = 4.3W of power.
Customers can use high-efficiency voltage converters to allow the indoor XPress to operate on 24VAC or 24VDC supply as shown on the right. Alternatively, you could use a 6V solar array and battery or a switcher to step the 12V down to 6V more efficiently.
Customers could also simply order our XEB09-I that has an integrated switcher regulator to handle 4.5-48VDC or 12-26VAC.
The indoor units consume about: 340mA (linear regulator)
The minimum voltage for use with the on-board linear regulator is 4.0 VDC and Maximum voltage is 16VDC. The system can tolerate spikes up to 48VDC for brief periods. Thermal specifications will depend on system level heat transfer analysis.
4.5 - 48.0 VDC* can be used at screw terminal / barrel jack / PoE injector (included with Outdoor systems) pictured below / -40 to 70C temp range. 12.0-26.0 VAC can be used at screw termination.
The injector labeled on the RJ-45 side with "Data In" means to connect the incoming data. The "P+Data Out" means Power plus Data coming out of injector and entering into the radio. It is important to know that data will communicate bidirectional when radios are communicating.
