How do I configure a PortServer TS IP address directly from a serial port?

In some cases DHCP, ARP-Ping and Device Discovery tools are not feasible for assigning an IP address to these units.

By default, all serial ports on these units will have the "terminal" profile configured.  This means a login prompt is being sent to all of the serial ports.

To configure a unit using the serial port, connect a null-modem/crossover cable to your PC.  PortServer units currently ship with a DB9 console modtap adapter.  Using a straight through Cat V/Ethernet cable connect the modtap adapter to the PC DB9 serial port and the other end to the Digi RJ45 port.  Additional console/terminal cabling assignments can be found here:

Use a terminal emulation program, such as HyperTerminal, minicom, PuTTY, etc... to connect to the COM port on your PC at 9600 baud, 8 character bits, 1 stop bit and no parity.

When presented with a login prompt, login as root with the default password of dbps.

From the command line, set the IP address for the unit:

#> set config ip=(IP_address) submask=(your__subnet_mask) gateway=(your_gateway_IP) dns1=(your_DNS_IP)

For example:

#> set config ip=192.168.0.10 submask=255.255.255.0 gateway=192.168.0.1 dns1=8.8.8.8

The unit will need to be rebooted for the change to take effect:

#> boot action=reset

Once rebooted, the PortServer TS can no be connected to the network switch/HUB where the remaining configuration can be accomplished by navigating to the web interface of the unit by placing the IP address in your web browser.
