Company provides wireless data solutions for connecting remotely positioned environmental sensors to data recorders and data acquisition systems. They specialize in developing very low power radio solutions for environmental monitoring, and in particular the monitoring of soil moisture conditions in irrigated agriculture.
The company needed to provide a solution that would aid its customers in manipulating crop quality and quantity through irrigation management. The company needed to design a device to control and coordinate the collection and transmission of remote environmental data such as soil moisture information over radio. Their clients then use the soil moisture data and field observations to improve how irrigation is applied.
The customer chose Digi’s 900 MHz 9Xstream OEM module operating at 100 mW and transmitting at 9600 bps. The long range, low power and low cost of Digi’s modules greatly appealed to the customer. In addition, Digi’s 9XStream radios were chosen for its Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum feature. The radios provide data transmission ranges in excess of 5 kilometers in outdoor, line of sight transmission areas using a standard omni directional antenna. By integrating Digi’s radios, the customer was able to develop a product that allowed their clients to remotely gather the environmental data that they required.
Using Digi OEM modules, the solution unit is able to control and coordinate the collection and transmission of remote environmental data such as soil moisture information. Precious resources are used more efficiently and agricultural productivity increases.
