New Internet of Everything (IoE) Kit by Etherios with Qualcomm QSC6270-Turbo Chipset Makes it Fast, Easy and Cost Effective to Develop Cellular Connected Products

The IoE Kit allows equipment makers to develop cellular connected products using Java

MINNETONKA, Minn. (September 3, 2013)Etherios, a division of Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII), today launched the Internet of Everything Kit by Etherios featuring the Qualcomm QSC6270-Turbo chipset, a development kit that includes all of the tools necessary for creating cellular connected products.  The kit, based on the Qualcomm QSC6270-Turbo chipset with support for Oracle Java ME, eliminates the need for a separate processor because it enables applications to be programmed directly on the chipset.  This saves device manufacturers time and money and reduces design complexity. Etherios also offers Wireless Design Services that help customers navigate the complex, costly and time-consuming process of certifying cellular products. The Qualcomm QSC6270 is a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated.

“The Internet of Everything Kit makes it fast and easy to build a cellular connected product,” said Joel Young, CTO and senior vice president of research and development, Digi International. “In addition to the ease of Java programming directly on the Qualcomm QSC6270-Turbo chipset, Device Cloud by Etherios™ enables connectivity for managing devices in the cloud, and Etherios Wireless Design Services helps customers navigate the complex maze of certifying cellular products.”

The Internet of Everything Kit allows equipment makers to create cellular connected devices for a wide range of applications, including asset tracking, health care, industrial automation, smart energy and many others.  The kit is based on the Qualcomm QSC6270-Turbo chipset with the Oracle Java ME Embedded 3.2 virtual machine and includes connectivity to Device Cloud by Etherios and a free SIM and 3-month M2M cellular subscription from KORE Telematics.

“The IoE development platform was designed to allow developers with little mobile development experience to go from concept to connected product quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively,” said Nakul Duggal, vice president product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “The IoE Kit by Etherios, with Device Cloud and the KORE Telematics subscription, is a powerful tool and an ideal starting point for creating a range of cellular-connected products.”

“Reliable and ubiquitous cellular connectivity is a critical component to any successful M2M deployment. For this reason, Digi and Qualcomm Technologies turned to KORE to ensure that the IoE platform has cellular connectivity built into the kit and available upon delivery,” said Robert Metzler, executive vice president of sales and marketing, KORE. “We are excited about this collaboration and look forward to helping accelerate time-to-market for M2M devices and applications, helping customers deliver new solutions that drive business efficiencies and deliver new revenue streams.”

The Internet of Everything Kit by Etherios is now available for $499 MSRP.  For more information about the kit or to place an order, click here. For more information about Device Cloud, visit www.etherios.com/devicecloud.
