Set up using ARP?

0 votes
One of the ways to set up a network connection with a device of known MAC address is to add a static entry to the ARP table, associating it with a known IP address on the local network.

I've been able to set up the static entry OK (on XP), but the ME won't talk to me. It appears to start responding, but then fails to respond.

Has anyone got this working?

By any chance, is your device sending out and successfully being fed a dhcp-based ip address? You might want to get a network protocol analyzer (for example wireshark), set it to monitor the device's PHYSICAL address (mac address) and see if the device's address is going from working (ping-arp) to not working (dhcp).

You might need to disable DHCP in the device.

No, device has been assigned a totally different IP address (in a totally different private network block)
