Question

Did anyone try to connect web-cameras to USBAnywhere ?

IF Yes, please share your experience:
1) Did it work smoothly ?
2) Did You try to connect 2+ cameras to the same unit ?

Hi,

Yes, you can use webcam's on the AnywhereUSB successfully. However be aware that for best performance you'll probably only be able to run about two at the same time.

Also be aware that most webcams use isochronous transfers which the AnywhereUSB does not support.

The best webcam I have work on the AnywhereUSB is our Watchport/V2. You may find more info on the www.digi.com website if you're interested.

I try to connect a Logitech Fusion webcam to AnywhereUSB/5. The awusbcheck.exe tool reports the camera as a compatible device! The installation of the Logitech drivers (on W2K3 SP2) was not really successful. The server now crashes with a bluescreen within 20 seconds after every attempt to connect to the cam...

Joe,

I'm sorry but unfortunately our checker program isn't a "catch all". It only checks to see if the USB device is reporting isochronous transfers.

Even though this camera doesn't actually report isochronous transfers it still uses isochronous transfers because of the built in microphone. Since the microphone portion is not reported as a "usb device" per se, our checker program can't catch it.

If you want to use a webcam on the AnywhereUSB it has to be one that does not have a mic built into it. I apologize, I should have clarified that in my original response.

In fact I'm not interested in the microphone - would it work somehow without this feature, or do they only work together?

Jim,

We've tried to disable Mics on the webcams but I haven't had any luck getting it to install anyway. It's usually something in the firmware descriptor that still is reporting to the operating system even though the mic is disabled in device manager.

I am speculating that the only way to get it to work is to physically disable the mic somehow but I really don't even know for sure if that would work. Where exactly during the installation is it hanging up at?

Joe,

The entries you provided are unfortunately not going to be of any use.

If disabling the mic doesn't allow the installation to work you're just not going to be able to use that camera.

Unfortunately I just can't get the camera to work on our AnywhereUSB.
