Remote ATER command not returning correct data

Using Firmware 8070
Model#: XBEE PROS3B

When I send a remote ATER command I get a number back. When I send ATER0, in order to set it back to zero. I get a 162 decimal back. No matter what the value was when I sent it, when I set it to zero, and ask it for the ATER again. It always gives me back 162 instead of zero.

Any thoughts why this is the case?

this is not the case with my modules. May you are doing it in different way or these units are faulty.

Can you add a screenshot here to make sure that we are on same page.

The ATER or Error Count command is NOT a settable parameter.  It is a Read Only value.  You must reset the module in order to reset this or any other read only value.
