WR11 not recovering connection

0 votes
Hi all,

My WR11 seems to not recover after the connection becomes not so stellar. I have to power cycle it to return it to service. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks!

Hi, Which kind of a connection you mean? Cellular or Ehternet or something else...?

My WR11 is losing ethernet link (between WR11 and wired device), and i have to connect over air to WR11 and reboot it to bring eth back.

Is it similar?
if yes, Have you solve it?

Thanks in advance.
Cellular dropping and not recovering was my problem.  Ethernet side is fine for me.  I did not solve it, I just power cycle the WR11 every time it happens (1-3 times per day) and it comes back up fine.  Since I sit next to it, it's a workable solution for me.

Hi

Have you used the surelink wizard to setup recovery options

I had not, but I used it after you posted that and it changed nothing.  So the problem still exists even after the surelink wizard.

What device and firmware are you running? There was a bug on 3G variants that would not allow recovery but this has been fixed for over a year.

Model:    TransPort WR11
Part Number:    WR11-L600-DE1-SU
FW Version:    5.2.14.3 (Mar 8 2016 10:31:14)
Image Number:    0
Boot Version:    7.56u

Yeah, that was not one of the devices affected as far as I am aware.  What does the eventlog say when it is in this fault condition?
Here is an example from last night:

02:15:54, 11 Jun 2016,PPP 1 down
[...]
02:14:42, 11 Jun 2016,Modem dialing on asy 2 #:*98*1#
02:14:35, 11 Jun 2016,Modem disconnected on asy 2,4
02:14:34, 11 Jun 2016,PPP 1 down
[repeated for as long as the event log had space for]

I initiated a reboot from the web ui and it came up and worked no problem.

Also from this morning where it did self-recover (sortof) but took a while to do it:

10:49:23, 11 Jun 2016,PPP 1 up

This sequence was happening about every 5 minutes.  It did recover, but then failed again.  I rebooted it again and then the cycle stopped.
It is in your logs right there that you are getting disconnected because of ping failure.  "PPP 1 down,PPP PING Failure"

What are your ppp ping settings ?
Yea, thanks.  I added the ping tests from James' comment above.  I've now removed it again per your implied suggestion.  I assume I'll be back to the original state before I posted the question at this point.  (Which, btw, was NOT why does it disconnect.  My question why does it not recover without a reboot.)

From this thread, it appears that there is no answer to the original question, and I'll just have to keep rebooting it whenever it won't auto-recover.  I appreciate all your time and suggestions!
You should never have to physically reboot a Digi router.  The pings are there for good reason but it shows that the cellular link is not working correctly so brings the service down.  You would need to post a lot more info such as the debug to get to the bottom of this.  If you are having issues creating a suitable configuration I would suggest talking to the distributor or getting support direct from Digi.
with out an idea of why the router is getting into this state you might need to set the eventlog to output to a usb stick so you can see when the router actualy stops working.

with surelink / configuration as well as testing and trying to bring PPP back up after so many attampts the router can be forced to reboot its self
