Disabled pin impedance

Does anybody know / has tested whether disabling a digital pin of the XBee module via XCTU (for example DIO6/RTS or DIO7/CTS) gets those pins in a high-impedance state?

I don't know which modules you are working with, but if the module supports a Pull up resistor option, then that would work. The other option is to set the desired pins for Digital output high.
