Edgeport COM port assignments in Device Manager don't match the Edgeport Configuration Utility

This is a known issue affecting Windows Vista and newer Operating Systems.

The symptom of the problem is that the Edgeport COM port assignments in the Edgeport Configuration Utility may not match the ones in the Ports (COM & LPT) section of Windows Device Manager.  More specifically, this issue usually only happens if Edgeport COM port assignments were changed after the unit was installed, and through the Edgeport Configuration Utility.  In other words, on a new installation, they should match up, but possibly not afterwards.

Note:  When comparing Device Manager vs. the Edgeport Configuration Utility, the Edgeport Configuration Utility should be treated as accurate.  The COM port numbers that you see in the Ports section of Device Manager are technically “friendly names”.  The cause of this issue is a permissions issue such that the friendly names aren't getting updated as they should.  The Properties of the serial port should show the accurate COM port number that matches what’s listed in the Edgeport Configuration Utility.

Workaround:  Simply right-click / Disable then right-click / Enable each of the Edgeport serial/COM ports within the Ports (COM & LPT) section of Device Manager.
