Performing a loopback test on Digi CM Products

1. Navigate to the Digi CM device from your web browser by typing in the IP address of the unit (depending on your security settings, you may be required to preceed this with https:// rather than http://), login as root (default password:  dbps).

2. Under the Serial port configuration, ensure the Host Mode is set to Console Server, there is a Listening Port entered and the protocol is set to Telnet.  For example:

3. A loopback plug is shipped with the Digi CM products.  Plug the loopback plug into the port to be tested.

4. From a Microsoft Windows CMD line, Unix/Linux prompt, or a terminal emulator software, such as PuTTY or HyperTerminal, telnet to the IP address and the listening port number of the Digi CM unit.

For example:

C:\>  telnet 192.168.0.2 7001

5.  When prompted, login as root (default password: dbps).

5. Start typing characters on your keyboard.  The characters you type should echo back and be displayed on your screen (once).  If you remove the loopback plug from the port and keep typing, you should not see any data on your screen.

To disconnect for the port, issue the telnet escape sequence:  <Ctrl> ].  Enter the word "quit" at the telnet prompt.
