Deactivate the fastcook setting on the tty port to resolve this behavior:

# ditty -fastcook ttyx##

Where ttyx## represents the actual tty device.

This setting may be added to a start up script (such as: /etc/rc.d/8/userdef) to configure the setting after system reboots.
