Why my laptop is not pingable through an IPsec VPN tunnel?

When using an IPsec VPN tunnel for communications between two remote sites, it can happen to find issues when trying ping between laptops to check that the communication through the VPN is working.
In many cases this is due to the firewall on the laptop.
In particular, in cases where you are able to ping from your laptop to remote site but not reverse, this can be due to the firewall not allowing the reply to ping coming from an address different from the laptop local LAN.
In order to verify this, please check/disable the security/firewall settings on the laptop and see if it works, usually this fix the issue and shows that the VPN is working correctly.
