Data Integrity and Received Signal Strength
All Digi radios have the ability to detect and report the received signal strength of incoming packets. Normally, the received signal strength indication (RSSI) is used to report the signal quality of the last good packet received by the radio. RSSI measures the energy intensity at the antenna, so it reports the strength of the desired signal but may also measure the strength of any interference in the area.
A data loopback test can be used to report the number of good vs. bad data packets. This method not only designates communication quality, but lost packets can be measured if an interfering source happens to make a less than reliable RSSI. The Digi configuration and test utility (X-CTU) has the ability to perform both RSSI and loopback tests.
