HOW TO: Stop Modem Scanning in Microsoft Windows


By default COM ports are scanned in Microsoft Windows for connected modems. A side effect of this action can lead to the port baud rate to changing to 1200 baud.  To turn off this feature, navigate to Device Manager > Multi-port serial adapters, expand the option.  Right-click on the desired Digi device entry and select Properties.  Next click on the Advanced tab, followed by the Properties... button:

Select the Advanced tab, click on the desired COM port and select the Do Not Scan Modems on Boot option.  Click Apply and OK to save:

The Copy Settings... option can be used to copy the settings to other COM ports:
