New service connects IT and OT teams directly to edge devices with no VPN, cloud proxy or added cost
MINNEAPOLIS, MN, June 9, 2026 – Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII, www.digi.com), a leading global provider of connectivity solutions that keep enterprise sites, retail locations, mobile fleets, and critical infrastructure always connected, today announced Digi Remote Reach. Remote Reach is a peer-to-peer remote access capability available for Digi Remote Manager (DRM) subscribers utilizing Digi IX25 and other cellular devices launched in 2026. Remote Reach enables engineers, technicians and IT teams to connect directly to any device behind a Digi router, from a Linux server in a remote substation to a PLC on a factory floor, with a single click inside DRM.
Unlike legacy remote access tools that route session traffic through a vendor's cloud, Digi Remote Reach uses the same peer-to-peer protocol that powers real-time Internet calls to establish a direct encrypted tunnel between the user's browser and the target device. Digi facilitates the initial handshake, then steps aside. No customer data passes through Digi cloud servers. What remains is a connection that is faster, more secure and entirely under the customer's control.
“Remote access tools have asked customers to trust a vendor’s cloud with their operational data, pay a premium for the privilege, and accept the latency that comes with it. Digi Remote Reach removes all three. The peer-to-peer architecture is the differentiator, and it’s included with the Digi Remote Manager subscription.”
— Landon Reese, Vice President of Product, Digi International
Architecture Is the Advantage
With competing solutions, a remote access session travels from a browser to the vendor cloud to a router to an end device. Every hop adds latency. Every hop puts session data in contact with third-party infrastructure. Every hop creates compliance exposure.
Remote Reach eliminates the middle. The path is bi-directional between the browser and the direct encrypted tunnel, as well as between the tunnel and the router as well as the router and end device. Digi’s infrastructure facilitates the handshake only. Once connected, the session is point-to-point. It stays up even if vendor infrastructure goes down. Best of all, Digi Remote Reach connects quickly, without lag in navigation, almost like operating a local machine.
Bridges IT and OT in a Single Tool
Digi Remote Reach is the only remote access solution in its class to support both enterprise IT protocols and industrial OT connections in a single interface. IT teams can reach servers, switches and infrastructure over RDP, SSH, VNC, HTTP/HTTPS and Telnet. OT and industrial teams can connect via serial/COM to PLCs, RTUs, HMIs, and other field devices in SCADA environments, devices that most remote access products cannot reach at all. Organizations that currently operate separate tools for IT and OT environments can consolidate on a single platform.
Devices you can reach with Digi Remote Reach:
IT Infrastructure
- Servers (Windows, Linux) — via RDP, SSH, VNC
- Managed switches and routers — via SSH, Telnet, HTTP/HTTPS
- Firewalls and network appliances — via SSH, HTTP/HTTPS
- Out-of-band console servers — via SSH, Telnet
- UPS systems and PDUs — via SSH, HTTP/HTTPS, Telnet
OT / Industrial Field Devices
- PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) — via serial/COM
- RTUs (Remote Terminal Units) — via serial/COM
- HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) — via serial/COM or RDP/VNC
- DCS (Distributed Control System) components — via serial/COM
- SCADA field devices and data acquisition equipment — via serial/COM
Shared / Converged Environments
- IoT gateways and edge devices — via SSH, HTTP/HTTPS
- Industrial routers and cellular gateways — via SSH, HTTP/HTTPS
- Any IP-addressable LAN device — via HTTP/HTTPS, RDP, SSH, VNC
Included with Digi Remote Manager. No Premium Tier Required.
Remote Reach is included at no additional charge with every Digi Remote Manager subscription with compatible Digi cellular devices launched in 2026 and beyond. Competitors who offer comparable remote access functionality require advanced subscription tiers that can cost two to three times the base price. The peer-to-peer architecture that makes Remote Reach technically superior is the same reason it is more economical to deliver. When customer data never relies on vendor servers, there is no bandwidth or compute overhead to recover through pricing.
Part of a Sustained Innovation Cycle
Remote Reach arrives at a moment of significant product momentum for Digi. In recent months the company has launched a range of new security, connectivity and artificial intelligence solutions:
Remote Reach demonstrates Digi's continued innovation and industry leadership by delivering next-generation deployment-wide visibility and access for IT and OT teams.
