PortServer II hangs on boot with "b" on the display

Symptom:

PortServer II hangs on boot with "b" on the display.

Cause:

  • The PortServer is set to use a TFTP host and the IP of the TFTP host is wrong.
  • The file name or location of the TFTP boot file is wrong.
  • The PortServer is set to use a bootp host and the IP of the bootp host is wrong.
  • The file name or path of the bootp file is wrong.
  • The bootp and or tftpboot parameters are set to yes or to smart but the corresponding file and host parameters are not set.

Solutions:

  • Briefly press both of the arrow buttons to bypass the boot host requirement and bring the PortServer completely up. Correct the errant IP or filename for the TFTP boot parameters.
  • Briefly press both of the arrow buttons to bypass the boot host requirement and bring the PortServer completely up. Correct the errant IP or filename for the bootp boot parameters.
  • Briefly press both of the arrow buttons to bypass the boot host requirement and bring the PortServer completely up. Change the bootp and/or the tftpboot options to No.
