Basic Modbus Configuration when using a Digi EZ device

This knowledge base article will guide you through basic modbus protocol setup using a Digi DAL device.

Setting up your Digi Connect EZ device.

1. First, you will want to verify that you have the serial port mode set to modbus. Within the webui you will navigate to system > configuration > serial configuration. Select the port, and use the drop down for the mode option. You will also configure your basic serial settings to match your attached serial device.

2. Within the webui you will want to navigate to system > device configuration > services > Modbus Gateway. Enable the option.

3. Next, select gateway server, and add a description.

4. Next, you will define the server’s parameters. In most cases the default settings will work.

5. Next, you will add a client. You will need to add a description.

6. When defining the modbus address filter/filters. If you do not know your modbus devices, ID’s, I would recommend setting the filter range using 1-247.

• Make sure you click apply, as well as power cycle your device before testing your configuration.
