How do I upgrade the firmware on a Digi Connect WAN 3G?

This can be done through the Web UI (Web User Interface) of the Digi Connect WAN device, either via the Mobile IP or Local IP.  It's strongly recommended to use the Local IP (default 192.168.1.1) if at all possible, to ensure the firmware updates successfully.

The existing configuration will be saved when the firmware update is done.  Digi recommends you back the configuration of the Digi Connect WAN device before doing the firmware update.

1. Determine the POST and EOS (firmware) versions that your Digi Connect WAN unit is currently running, by clicking the Update Firmware link in the Web UI of the device.  Make note of both the versions and file names of the POST and EOS.  Example - POST version x.yy, filename 8200xxxx_y and EOS (firmware) version x.yy, filename 8200xxxx_y.

2. Download the latest Digi Connect WAN firmware.  Navigate to www.digi.com, click the Support menu, click Firmware Updates.  Select the appropriate Digi Connect WAN product, that matches your device.  If you aren't certain which model to choose, select the best match.

3. Within the Firmware Updates section, you should see download links for POST, Firmware (sometimes called EOS), and Release Notes.  We're only interested in the POST and Firmware download links.  There may be multiple POST and Firmware download links.

4. Mouse over each POST download link and note the filenames (8200xxxx.y).  Look for the one matches the POST filename as what your device is running (determined from step 1).  For example, if your POST filename is 82001234.y, look for a matching download that's also 82001234.  The letter at the end represents the revision (Rev) of the device.  Revision B is newer than revision A, and so forth.  If there is a newer revision, for example 82001234.z, then download that file.  Otherwise, if the filenames and revisions match, that tells us that your POST is already up-to-date.

Note:  If you do not see any matching POST files, you may have selected the wrong product.  Select a different model Digi Connect WAN until you find the right files.

5. If needed, update the POST through the Web UI of the Digi Connect WAN device, and then be sure to reboot the device afterwards, when prompted.  Then ensure that the POST was successfully updated before proceeding.

Note:  You MUST be running the most current POST in order successfully update the firmware (EOS).

6. Mouse over each Firmware download link and note the filenames (8200xxxx.y).  Look for the one matches the Firmware filename as what your device is running (determined from step 1).  For example, if your Firmware filename is 82005678.y, look for a matching download that's also 82005678.  The letter at the end represents the revision (Rev) of the device.  Revision B is newer than revision A, and so forth.  If there is a newer revision, for example 82005678.z, then download that file.  Otherwise, if the filenames and revisions match, that tells us that your Firmware is already up-to-date.

Note:  If you do not see any matching Firmware files, you may have selected the wrong product.  Select a different model Digi Connect WAN until you find the right files.
