How to identify a Digi TransPort WR series router from its part number (SKU)

The part number (known as a SKU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock-keeping_unit) of a Digi TransPort router has a modular format.

Format of a Digi TransPort SKU

Digi TransPort SKUs have the following format:

MMMM-NNHH-WSS-PP

where:

MMMM = Model: for WR series routers, this will be WR21, WR41 or WR44.

NN = Network: essentially the type of cellular module fitted in the router (more detail below).

HH = Hardware: these are hardware options apart from the cellular module type (more detail below).

W = WiFi: applies to WR41 and WR44 only, also can denote VDSL on WR44v2 (more detail below).

SS = Software: denotes the software profile that the router was shipped with (more detail below).

PP = Packing: denotes the items included in the box with the router, but can also denote options such as extended temperature, rugged enclosure etc. (more detail below).

NN = Network

These two characters denote the type of cellular module that is fitted in the router:

00 = no cellular module
E1 = Cinterion MC75i(generic)
U5 = Qualcomm Gobi 2000 (generic)
U6 = Ericsson F5521 (AT&T)
U7 = Ericsson F5521 (generic)
U8 = Huawei EM680 Gobi 3000 (generic)
U9 = Telit HE910 (generic)
C0 = C-motech CNE-680 (CDMA2000 450MHz)
B1 = Fusion FW2763P (CDMA2000 1xRTT, Sprint)
L1 = Huaewei ME909 (EMEA generic)
L2 = Novatel E362 LTE (Verizon)
L3 = Novatel E371 LTE (AT&T)
L4 = Sierra Wireless MC7710 LTE (EMEA generic)
L5 = Sierra Wireless MC7354 (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint)

HH = Hardware

On the WR21 only, these two characters denote one of four possible combinations of hardware options:

1B = 1x Ethernet port, plus 1x RS232 serial port
2B = 2x Ethernet ports, plus 1x RS232 serial port
1A = 1x Ethernet port plus 1x RS232/422/485 serial port
2A = 2x Ethernet ports, plus 1x RS232/422/485 serial port

On the WR41 and WR44, these two characters denote an optional daughterboard module which can be fitted inside the router to provide additional hardware options:

00 = no special hardware
A3 = 3x RJ45 Async serial ports
F1 = Fleet I/O interface (CAN-bus)
G1 = GPS
G4 = GPS with 4-wire ethernet (WR44RR only)
G8 = GPS with 8-wire ethernet (WR44RR only)
I1 = ISDN
P1 = PSTN
P3 = DialServ
S1 = 1x DB25 Sync/Async serial port
T1 = Telemetry 1
T2 = Telemetry 2

W = WiFi

On the WR21 only, this character is always "D" because the WR21 does not have a WiFi option.

On the WR41, this charcacter is used to denote whether or not WiFi is fitted to the router:

D = no WiFi
W = WiFi (b/g)
N = WiFi (b/g/n)

On the WR44, this character denotes whether the platform is WR44v1 or WR44v2, plus whether or not WiFi and/or VDSL options are fitted:

WR44v1:
D = no WiFi
W = WiFi (b/g)

WR44v2:
C = no WiFi
N = WiFi (b/g/n)
F = VDSL Annex A/M
G = VDSL Annex B
L = VDSL Annex A/M + WiFi (b/g/n)
M = VDSL Annex B + WiFi (b/g/n)
T = Dual WiFi (Dual WiFi module option)
A = AC WiFi (ac/a/b/g/n)

SS = Software

On the WR21 and WR41, these two characters denote one of two possible software profiles:

B1 = Basic profile
E1 = Enterprise profile

On the WR41, these two characters denote one of a number of possible software profiles, with "A1" being the default or lowest possible profile:

B1 = 0 VPN tunnel instances
A1 = 5 VPN tunnel instances
V1 = 5 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption
V2 = 20 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption
V3 = 50 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption
E1 = 5 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch
E2 = 20 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch
E3 = 50 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch
E5 = 200 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch

On the WR44, these two characters denote one of a number of possible software profiles, with "E1" being the default or lowest possible profile:

E1 = 5 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch
E2 = 20 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch
E3 = 50 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch
E5 = 200 VPN tunnel instances, IPsec encryption, protocol switch

PP = Packing

On the WR21, these characters indicate a standard router if the first character is "S". If the first character is "T", this specifies that the router has a 2-pin "terminal" DC power input socket. Options include:

SF = DC power lead, antennas
SU = US PSU, antennas
SW = INTL PSU, antennas
TA = Terminal(2 pin DC power socket), no PSU, antennas
TH = Terminal, US PSU, antennas
TK = Terminal (2 pin DC power socket), INTL PSU, antennas

On the WR41, these characters indicate a standard router if the first character is "S". Options include:

SF = DC power lead, antennas
SU = US PSU, antennas
SW = INTL PSU, antennas

On the WR44, these characters indicate a standard router if the first character is "S". If the first character is "R", this specifies a rugged enclosure. If the first charcter is "M", this specifies a WR44RR (RailRoad) model which is based on the WR44v2 platform but is ultra-ruggedised. Options include:

SF = DC power lead, antennas
SU = US PSU, antennas
SW = INTL PSU, antennas
RD = Rugged, DC power lead, antennas
RH = Rugged, US PSU, antennas
RK = Rugged, INTL PSU, antennas

WR44RR:
MB = no power lead, no antennas
MD = DC power lead, no antennas
