When using the Digi Remote Manager (DRM) console to open a live session to a device, is there a limit on how much output it will display — and is that limit measured in characters?
Answer
For devices running Digi Accelerated Linux (DAL), the DRM console has no character-based limit. Output is retained by line, not by character count, with a retention limit of approximately 1,000 lines — once that limit is reached, the oldest lines scroll out of the retained buffer. Note that a single logical line of output that wraps across the display counts as multiple lines against this limit, so wide or wrapped output reaches the limit sooner than the raw line count suggests.
This behavior applies to DAL-based devices (for example, the EX/IX/TX-series cellular routers and extenders such as the IX14, EX15, 6330-MX, and 6310-DX). Non-DAL devices — for instance older routers running SarOS or xOS, which use the Remote Manager “Execute a command” console rather than the DAL console — may behave differently and should not be assumed to share the same line-retention behavior.
