Follow-up Webinar Q&A
In our recent webinar on optimizing device management in rugged environments, Ray Pan of Symmetry Electronics and Larry Stein of Digi International shared insights on how to implement device management with Digi connectivity and remote monitoring and management solutions. See the Q&A session below. If you have additional questions, be sure to reach out.
Moderator: Mitch Sinon, Digi International
Presenters:
- Ray Pan, Senior Field Applications Engineer, Symmetry Electronics
- Larry Stein, Senior Field Applications Engineer, Digi International
- Cameron Haegle, Field Applications Engineer, Digi International
What is the fastest cellular speed that Digi supports?
Cameron: With our Digi XBee Cat 4 Cellular radio, you should be able to see about 150 megabits per second download, and 50 megabits per second upload on that particular device. We also have a category 1 and an NB-IoT modem as well.
What are the four key considerations for rugged outdoor remote device management applications?
Ray: One is the security. The security, connectivity, select your protocols and the data plan, and the scalability for extending networking, and the management service.
Does Digi offer support for operating systems other than Linux?
Cameron: We do. All of our embedded modules in the Digi ConnectCore® line provide support for Linux, with the Yocto project. We do have a few of the higher-end modules that support Android. Above and beyond that, we have worked with partners to provide support for other operating systems. Things like Wind River, QNX in the past, but our support directly is principally Linux and Android.
Where can I get more detailed information about the security services that you offer?
Cameron: The best place for that to start with is go to our website, https://www.digi.com/. Go to the search, the little magnifying glass icon, and search for "TrustFence" and Digi ConnectCore Security Services. and that'll bring up pages where you can explore our security services. If you have more detailed interest, would like to have a further discussion with our sales team, or even our security office, I would just reach out to your regional sales representative from Digi, or via Ray and their team at Symmetry, to get that discussion put in place.
Mitch: And just to add to that, for the person who asked the question, there's a couple of emails there on the screen, both Digi and Symmetry, that you can reach out to if you have questions. And then furthermore, if you fill out that form on our screen there, the digi.com/ContactUs, if you go to that page and ask any question you're interested in getting an answer to, our sales team will reach out to you within a business day. So, that's another great place, if you have questions just in general on anything that you've heard today, or any other Digi or Symmetry question you might have.
What is the maximum camera resolution that the ConnectCore MP25 can support?
Cameron: The ConnectCore MP25 provides for two camera interfaces. One is a MIPI CSI, or camera sensor interface. And there's also a parallel camera interface. The MIPI CSI interface provides maximum throughput of five megapixels per second. And the parallel interface runs top at one megapixel per second.
What are the additional value-added services that Symmetry Electronics offers?
Ray: Symmetry does provide these services. Its first one is turnkey design service, and we provide manufactured assemblies, and we do design customization. At the very end, we're supporting kitting, logistics, device programming, and the re-balling service.
Does Digi provide any library for the AI module, such as a text reader, and are those AI modules part of the ConnectCore series?
Cameron: Digi does not provide any particular software or specific models for the AI engine. We provide support for the AI engine with the libraries provided, the toolset provided by the chip manufacturer. So, STMicro or NXP, depending on what solution you're working with. Within those distributions of their software, they have a number of examples that you can enable and work with.
What is the power draw on the AI?
Cameron: That's a fantastic question, one I do not have an answer for off the top of my head. I would have to look at our DVT validation, and see what that would land at. I can look at that, and send a response out later.
