Digi radio interface boards are configured to supply voltage through the standard barrel jack or pin 9 of the DB9 connector. Below, one will find instructions on how to supply voltage through pin 9 of the DB9 connector on various Digi serial interface boards.
Bypassing the voltage regulator on the interface board to supply power directly to the module is possible, but not recommended as an unregulated power supply may supply voltage to the module that can damage the radio. Additionally, any soldering, cutting, or changes made to any Digi products will void the warranty on that product.
The voltage regulator on the XTIB-R will accept a 7-28V DC voltage range. To enable VCC on pin 9 on the DB9 connector, the XTIB-R will have header populated near R23 (Rev 6 and newer). If an older board has the header, and has solder pads near R23 you can install a jumper for the header or solder a zero ohm resistor across the solder pads on R23.
To supply power directly to the RF module and bypass the voltage regulator, the trace will need to be cut on the underside of the interface board. Cut the trace marked CUT, labeled on the interface board. On the top side of the interface board in the same place you will see a three pin header. The two pins closest to the J10 label will need to be populated.
Note: If supplying power directly to the OEM module, be sure the applied power is regulated 3VDC or 5VDC.
The voltage regulator on the XIB-R will accept a 7-18VDC voltage range. VCC is already enabled on pin 9 of the DB9 connector due to the installed 0 ohm resistor adjacent to J5.
To supply power directly to the RF module and bypass the voltage regulator, J1 should be jumpered.
Note: If supplying power directly to the OEM module, be sure the applied power is a regulated 5VDC.
The voltage regulator on the XBIB-R will accept a 5-14VDC voltage range. To enable VCC on pin 9 of the DB9 connector, install a zero ohm resistor on the solder pads on the location left of R3. This is applicable on board revisions Rev 4 and newer.
