Does the Digi Connect ME 9210 module need to have a JTAG port for the serial connection to work?

Question: Does the Digi Connect ME 9210 module need to have a JTAG port for the serial connection to work? The production version  does not have a JTAG port.
Answer:
No, the primary serial port is available through module connector and u-boot by default will print there unless in “quiet mode”. The JTAG connector provides additional serial port on unused pins and is not used by anything by default. If you manage to FLASH default images you should have access to the module through the serial port.

The production version of  the Digi Connect ME 9210 module has only one dedicated serial port (Serial Port A). The module that comes with a development kit has an additional serial port (Serial Port C) that is available through the JTAG connector and is routed to P2 on the development board, but this is obviously not an option for production JTAGless modules. You can however enable an additional 2-wire serial port through FIM0 (PIC0_GEN_IO[0] and PIC0_GEN_IO[1])
