Offline versus Online Assisted GPS (A-GPS)?


Offline AGPS:

  • No connection needed at the startup
  • It works in locations without wireless connectivity
  • The data can be downloaded from the server at user’s convenience
  • Data is valid over a period of 1 to 14 days
  • Maximum data download  ~90kB
  • TTFF can be as low as 5 seconds

Online AGPS:

  • Connection needed at the startup
  • Operation limited to telecom coverage areas
  • Needs position related information from the host(GPS)
  • Data is valid over a period of 2 to 4 hours
  • Maximum data download ~3kB
  • TTFF can be as low as 1 second

Digi X-Trak 3 supports ‘Offline AGPS’ with currently released firmware version 2.2.1.0.
